The D&AD New Blood awards are a series of industry standard brief set by some of the biggest global brands. This competition is open to students and designers under 24 world wide.
We are delighted to announce that 3rd year student NICOLE COWAN has been picked as the winner of Shutterstock’s ‘Shop till we drop‘ brief. For this category creatives were asked to create a series of images based archetypes such as ‘Tragedy’, ‘The Quest’ and ‘Overcoming the Monster’;
‘Within my underlying theme of consumerism, I intend to highlight the constant desires we have for things we cannot have. Overcoming the Monster of longing for model figures that we are fed as reality. The Quest to constantly, often mindlessly, fill our baskets with that we do not need. Buying from cooperate businesses whilst independent shops struggle. Ignoring those forgotten by society, the hungry, the homeless. These are Tragedies. Looking at the mundane, I questioned what we take for granted. In this capitalist society, we have become greedy, vain and ignorant. Let’s open our eyes and appreciate what we have.’
