STUDENT WORK: HOUSE OF ILLUSTRATION CHALLENGE

This September the HOUSE OF ILLUSTRATION asked artists and illustrators to do a one-inch drawing for each day of the month inspired by John Vernon Lord who, in 2016, did a drawing for every single day of the year.

Several of our students took on the 30 day challenge including ELLEN KNOWLES  and LORRAINE ANSELL– bellow are some of the illustrations they created for the brief;

STAFF WORK: MAURITIUS

Earlier this year Senior Lecturer MARTIN URSELL and Life Drawing tutor ALDOUS EVELEIGH accompanied Middlesex’s Science and Technology faculty on their annual trip to Mauritius. During this the students work with the Durrell Foundation on their pink pigeon conservation program. Through reportage Martin and Aldous (along with fellow sketchbook-er and senior lecturer Peter Thomas) documented the work of the Durrell team in saving the critically endangered animals of Mauritius and further, how they worked with the university’s Natural Sciences students. Below are a small selection from the drawings they brought back- if would like to read about the trip in more detail click this link to Martin, Peter and Aldous’ blog.

To cut to the punchline, this led to my meeting Lee Durrell and being invited by her to attend an award ceremony, and afternoon of discussion at the Natural History Museum,
